Oscar Pistorius
A double-amputee athlete, fitted with prosthetic limbs called Cheetah Flex Feet, Oscar Pistorius holds the world record in Paralympics sprinting events. In 2008, he made a bid to race in the Beijing Olympics; the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) originally banned him. Although the Court of Arbitration for Sport reversed the ban, they said the IAAF retained the right to ban such athletes in the future, as prosthetics and enhancements become more sophisticated. (Pistorius barely missed qualifying for the South African Olympic team. He won three gold medals at the Paralympic Games in Beijing in September 2008.)
