World Without Oil
WWO was an open, massively collaborative alternate reality game in which participants explored what their lives would be like after peak oil (the point when oil production start to decline permanently). The “gamers” uploaded podcasts, wrote blogs, and even organized local meetings, chronicling the participants’ various reactions and strategies in such circumstances. The website now includes education modules teachers can use to explore oil and energy issues. Games like this are part of the resources available for the creation of personal learning ecologies.
